Yuvraaj Music Review

Yippee! For those who yearned to heed over spellbinding musical scores, here comes A.R. Rahman's phenomenal gifts of composition, literary and playing skill surmounting to the extremum. The sensational duo combo Subash Ghai-Rahman electrified with their scintillating piece with 'Taal' and of course 'Yuvvraaj' offers chest-full-of delights. Perhaps, before owning a copy of this album, make sure it is not for those of you who want Rahman's full-toned sweet melodies, but those who desire to listen to the driving energies of Mozart, Yehudi Menuhin, Beethoven and indeed contemporary musician Rahman blended together. If you're gonna question, "Are the tunes so entrancing?" Obviously, it isn't a clichéd piece of work of turning Gulzar's lyrical lines into tunes. Singers have displayed their emotions and it's stupendously balanced by sharp clarity of instrumental texture. You're sure to lose yourselves out on the purity and sweetness of realistic music.

Dil Ka Rishta – Enchanting score by Rahman

Singers: Sonu Ningam, Roop Kumar Rathod, A.R.Rahman, Clinton Cerejo, Suzanne D'Mello, Vivinenne Pocha

The interlude goes on with fortepiano followed by fast flowing orchestral violins and stringed instruments played together. The elegantly noble Andante cantabile keeps accompanying throughout 7.39mins of songs turning down the spotlights and arresting your senses. Never-seen-before vocalisms of singers who keep sustaining at high level tones and A.R. Rahman rendering his voice in middle parts are fascinating. Sonu Ningam strides with his uttermost spirits in churning the best out of him. Roop Kumar Rathod, Clinton Cerejo, Suzanne D'Mello and Vivienne Pocha add more to the attractive quotients. Moreover, the song has a mix of symphonic genre blended with contemporary western beats and of course the carnatic ragas. This should have really evoked your previsions of how this exquisite melody would sound. Go ahead; get yourselves transfixed with it ….

Shano Shano – Merely for disco floors

Singers: Sonu Nigam, Srinivas, Kartik, Timmy, Sunaina, Vivienne Pocha, Tina.

Again it's Sonu Ningam taking on lead along with Srinivas, Karthik and Sunaina. But their exquisite voices get eclipsed by the winkling techno-beats. Well, the melodious tunes seem to be bit mediocre at certain parts. But Subash Ghai with his sorcerous abilities in cinematography would have got the best on visuals. The song would go reiterated over and over straight onto the discotheques.

Shano Shano (Remix)Sleek and stylish

Ember Rap

Distinctive peppy mix of instrumental synthesizers in hand with brilliantly engineered work gets the best sound. Jazzy beat with chorally-stringed chords blended with techno-bass all throughout the rap is sure to turn you zippy. Preludes are completely played on sync-thick leads and Ember sways tattling with rap lines are awesome. With refrains of 'Shano Shano' continually recapitulated by female chorus, makes the entire 2.35mins effectually lavish…

Mastam Mastam – Chilling your senses

Singers: Sonu Ningam, Alka Yagnik, Naresh and Benny

Looks like Sonu Ningam haps to be the ducky lad for Rahman. He fleets rendering his voice for end-to-end of different genres all throughout the album. Well, this song sounds to be having been placed in elated situation. So, what makes the song so special? A perfect orchestration of singers and instruments don't overshadow voices at any extent… Rhythmic Rumba chords on guitars keeps flowing through and last minute of the song you've the best combo of strings and percussions blended…. Probably, you can expect a better dance over there on the screen.

Manmohini MoreyMix of classic 'n' western

Singer: Vijay Prakash

Merely, a fusion of Hindustani Ragas rendered by Gulzar and synthesized western beats by maestro. Vijay Prakash vocalizes more or less similar with the styles of Ustad Ali Khan and 'Sang-froid' would be the best term to entitle this number. Surely, you'll feel this to be an already experienced musical and of course it's alike 'Dheem Ta Dare' from Thakshak (singer: Suja Bhattacharya, Music: A.R.Rahman).

Tu Hi Meri Dost – Ever-cherishing melody

Singers: Benny Dayal, Shreya Ghosal, A.R. Rahman.

Over-the-top! No other words to ennoble this splendiferous song. Gulzar's transfixing lyrical lines and the ostentatious music. Well, Benny Dayal stuns rendering voice on higher octaves. Well, A.R. Rahman and Shreya Ghosal scintillate proportionally… Highlighting part of the tunes keeps shifting on scales during versus. Again, stringed instruments keep flowing all through and don't miss the strings part in the interlude…

Main Hoon Yuvvraaj – For fans of Sallu Bhai

Singer: Salman Khan

Looks like it's a part of librettos in the flick and merely, fans of Salman Khan will have great likeability his voice. It isn't an original piece tuned by Rahman and nothing much to appreciate about him… Preferably, you would find this orchestral tune somewhere in best music libraries. (You could have noticed this on Background for Vikram Bhatt's 1920)

Tu Muskura – Hear it for Alka Yagnik

Singers: Alka Yagnik, Javed Ali

It's been a long time; Rahman spells his best clichéd melody with his favorite singer Alka Yagnik. Awesome! Rhythm may sound to be bit silent, but there is something more you discover on heeding your ears so keenly. There is blend of strings, harp, Cello and vibes all through and music buffs would really get spell-bound. Javed Ali grabs your attention with his portions…

Zindagi – Gulzar's show

Singers: Srinivas

Gulzar's Ghazal style of lyrics rules and it's a complete show by Srinivas. Perhaps, for our best guess after glimpsing through the lyrics, assumptions may be drawn it's a pure ballad. Individualistic emotions are precisely spelled through words while plain chords on guitars stimulate the same feel for listeners.

Verdict: Hip Hip Hooray! An Indian Mozart indeed…

How to Be Punctual

TIPS
If you're battling chronic lateness, there is hope. According to the
experts, you can avoid procrastination and tardiness by changing your
habits and tweaking your routines. Here are some things you can do to
turn lateness into punctuality

Steps
1. Acknowledge that you are a person who is having a hard time being
punctual. As with any problem, you cannot fix it if you're in denial that
it's a problem at all. But if your chronic tardiness is beginning to strain
your job and/or your relationships, the first thing you need to do is
acknowledge this as a weakness so you can begin to work toward
correcting it. Although if it is a rational problem, like traffic or small
children, there is no needs to feel bad-just keep working on it!

2. Be conscious of the time.

*Keep your watch accurate. For some people, moving up the time
on their watch will help them be earlier. For others, they will
subconsciously know that the time is wrong and so they just
disregard it altogether.

*Keep a clock, phone, computer or anything that displays time in
each room of your house. One of the easiest ways to run late is
simply by not realizing that the time is going by as quickly as it
is.

*Set all your clocks and watches to the same time.

*Don't be an optimist. Things usually take significantly longer
than you'd expect, even without major delays. If you have a
dinner date at 6:30 PM, don't think you can work in your yard
until 6:00, then shower, change, and drive across town and
make it on time. Realistically assess the time you will take on
each step and then add 10 minutes more to allow for unexpected
delays, or you can get to the restaurant first and get a good
seat, or if your date's early too, you can spend more time with
each other!

3. Wake up when you're supposed to wake up. Don't hit the snooze
button, linger in bed, and watch TV at the very start of your day.
Maybe even try setting your clock 10 minutes earlier than you need to.
If you have difficulty with this, move your alarm clock to somewhere
out of reach from your bed; that way, you have to get up to turn it off.
Acquire the habit of sitting up, stretching, and getting out of bed as
soon as the alarm goes off. If you can't get out of bed on time, you
may be going to bed too late. Try sleeping earlier to allow yourself at
least 7 hours sleep. By getting up late you are setting a pattern of
lateness for the rest of the day.

4. Commit yourself to being 15 minutes early for everything. If you
have to be to work at 8:00, don't even tell yourself this. Just tell
yourself (and everyone else who listens- but don’t annoy them or
make them thinks that they are late or early!) "I have to be at work at
7:45." If you do this, you will be on time even with little unforeseen
interruptions. You will be on time even with a traffic jam. And on those
rare times that you actually show up 15 minutes early; you will get
kudos for being an enthusiastic employee. You can also chat with
others who are early, and that will make you happy before work!

5. Bring something you can read in short segments almost everywhere
you go. This makes it easy to be early, since in the 10-15 minutes you
have before an appointment/event, you can get a few pages of reading
done. This makes it feel like you're getting something done (and you
are) while you are waiting, if you do have to wait. You can get a ton of
reading done this way, too.

6. Re-examine how long your daily tasks really take. For example, you
might be under the impression that you take a 15 minute shower,
assuming that starting at 6:30 you can leave at 6:45. But, what about
the time you spend before and after the actual shower? It's quite
possible you really spend 20 or even 30 minutes in the bathroom, and
that's why you can never leave by 6:45. So, think about the things
you do every day, and try and keep an estimate of how long it takes
you. Just saying to yourself” Right about 15 mins for that" can fix your
lateness and takes about 5 seconds.
7. Make a note of where you should be in regards to time. For
instance, if you have to leave your house at 8 for work, tell yourself,
"It's 7:20, I should be getting in the shower." "It's 7:35; I should be
brushing my teeth." This will help keep you on track. It is useful to
think up a morning schedule to get used to this habit.

8. Go to sleep on time. This makes it a lot easier to get up on time
and helps you stay on task during the day. Unless you know
otherwise, assume you need eight hours of sleep every night. By far
the majority of people need at least this much sleep. College students
and younger need more. Most people underestimate their sleep needs.

9.Pick out your clothes the night before (don't forget your
underclothes and shoes!). If you need to bring something with you,
set it with your car keys or purse.

10. Old military adage: If you're not 5 minutes early, you're 10 minutes
late!

Warnings

*Remember your reputation is on the line. The power of showing up
is limitless.

*Don’t fool yourself into thinking nobody notices the latecomer. If
you think you are more than occasionally late to work, school,
church, appointments, etc., you can be sure others have noticed
too.

Jodhaa Akbar Movie Review

I thought it is going to be a historical portrayal of Akbar before the release. But it turned out to be more of love story which starts after the marriage of Jodhaa with Akbar.

The movie has got everything - Political moves, war, hatred, jealous, love of religions, love story between the lead pair and family bonding and kitchen cabinet sabotage, plans etc...

The acting is top notch by Hrithik Roshan, Aishwarya, Ila Arun. The sets are class apart. Scripting is fairly good and covering all sort of angles. Clothes and Jewelery are outstanding. Photography is mind blowing.

Salute to A R Rahman for the great music score.Another salute to Ashutosh for making this movie. I now realize what a grand movie means. Mr Shankar (south Indian director of Sivaji, Mudalvan) should see this movie to understand how money can be spent to make the movie look lavish.

*** Don't touch me! We are in public ***

I can't believe they did it again! The city police has warned couples to behave themselves in public on Valentine's Day, February 14. They did this on a day when nine members of the Hindu Makkal Katchi were arrested for attempting to burn Valentine Day cards. The right wing organisation was claiming that the celebrations were against Tamil culture and the "Hindu way of life".

It is clear that law and order is on a strain in the city ahead of the celebrations. Vandals from fringe fundamentalist Hindu organisations may go on rampage. In fact, if you are self-respecting fundamentalist, this is when you show your true colours. So it's quite surprising to hear the police warning couples instead of reassuring them.

It is the second time in the recent past that the HMK is in the news. The group, which has taken the ominous task of moral policing Tamil Nadu, had recently found actress Shreya's attire that she wore to the silver jubilee celebrations of Sivaji, to be offending for Tamils and Hindus. (The HMK split itself from the Hindu Munnani in the mid-90s says the Wikipedia stub on the organisation.)

I hate Valentine's Day myself. I even hate birthdays, so don't even ask me about Valentine's Day. But I think if you are in your late teens and if you have a girlfriend or boyfriend who is sporty enough to accompany you for the evening, you are likely to have fun. And any day that provides an excuse must be welcomed with open arms.

The clothes we wear are not really Indian. Much of our ideology and philosophy has been shaped by the west. To appreciate Indian and Tamil culture is important, especially since it clearly under the onslaught of the forces of globalisation. To be a bigot and burn Valentine's Day cards is uncool. When the Shiv Sena first started doing it a decade ago (to my knowledge), that generated a debate. We all learned how much money companies like Hallmark were making out of Valentine's Day. But today, such protests seem pointless and extreme. I so wish HMK would stop attracting attention to itself.

Happy Republic Day !

Republic of INDIA
The Constitution of India came into force, and India declared itself as a "Republic" on January 26, 1950, a date thereafter celebrated annually as Republic Day in India. The Constitution had been prepared by the Constituent Assembly which was set up upon India gaining its independence from the British in 1947. This, in fact, was a deliberate act: the 26th of January was initially India's "Independence Day", one of Mahatma Gandhi's many symbolic acts during India's Freedom Struggle against the British colonial rule, and the adoption of the Constitution on this date was felt able to strengthen its initial meaning, one calling for Indians of all ages to declare their freedom from the British Raj. It is one of three annual national holidays in India, the other two being the nation's Independence Day on August 15 (since 1947) and the birthday of Mohandas K Gandhi or Mahatma Gandhi on October 2. And so, after the disposal of the Empire of India; King George VI was the last and only "King" of the modern India.

Chennai Sangamam

I had a blast last Sunday , sampling Virudhunagar kotthu parotta and drinking Jil Jil Jigal Dhanda. But the real fun was when the music started. 2 hours of exhilarating street art, from Silambattam, Therukkoothu, and Singara Melam (Chendai Kottu) and some Tamil Songs by NithyaShri Mahadevan . The Therukkoothu from Thiruvannamalai was hilarious and took some earthy digs at contemporary society. It featured Lord Yama, a comical man who is about to be taken by aforementioned for a ride on a buffalo, and strangely enough, Veerapaandiya Kattabomman as well.

Well, if you are wondering what this woeful statement is about, it all started after hearing the news that the Chennai Corporation has sanctioned the construction of Six, yep SIX new flyovers, a few bypass roads and apparently even a few underground roads are in order - all for a cost in the tune of Rs. 150 crores.

It's not the cost that astounds or scares me, but its the numbers and the term "flyovers".

I have unconsciously developed this impression that the entry into chennai is denoted by the ever-going construction of the Kaththipara Junction - which I hope my generation lives to see functioning in full style, and the newer work that has begun in T-nagar and the nearby areas, making driving in Chennai a literal nightmare.

Now, to top all of this, six more. I am almost tempted to spread open a Chennai map and see which area is going to be the next that they are going to sabotage and take over, but I guess these are matters we go through under the name of Infrastructure development right?

I really wish I could fly over the "to-be" flyovers.
